Putting Congress on notice
Contributed by: John Eisel   on 10/10/2006

I'm not a Republican nor Democrat. I'm more a moderate Libertarian, which means I favor Democrats for social issues (mostly) and Republicans for for financial issues (mostly).

Looking at the race for Colorado's governor, it comes down to who I don't want elected, as opposed to who I do.

Bob Beauprez? Sit down. I think you've done enough (or rather, not nearly enough) representing the 7th Congressional District that I don't want him in charge of my state government.

Bill Ritter? He of the absolutely no political experience whatsoever group? Welcome aboard.

I've had enough with this Congress.

Let's see what they've accomplished in their 72 days of office, which is about half of previous Congresses:

> Had one of their members, Scott Foley, get kicked out because of innapropriate contact with a page.
> Decided to build a fence to fix illegal immigration. Nice start.
> Took on online gambling. Man, that was keeping me up at night.
> Increased the national debt ceiling to $9 trillion. (Luckily, it's just over $8.5 trillion right now).
> Nearly passed a minimum wage hike to $6.85. Too bad the Republicans tacked on a tax cut for the rich so the Democrats killed the bill. Let me ask you - do you think you could live on $5.15 an hour? Now the state will likely approve a HORRIBLE amendment that would tie minimum wage to the inflation in the Denver/Boulder area. I don't think business owners on the Eastern Plains, Western Slope or San Luis Valley would appreciate paying employees $10 a hour in 2010, do you? (Then again, you've received so many pay raises, you might want constituents to know how it feels.)
> Watched as the War in Iraq has turned sour. Unfortunately, we're stuck there, because this is the United States' doing, and to cut and run now would not only send a bad message to terrorists, but to allies around the world that see us as someone who can't follow through.
> Bickered at each other over everything else.

Let's see what wasn't dealt with:
> Social Security. I'm 26 years old. I don't plan on having it. But I'm sure going to spend a lot on making sure my parents' generation will have it, won't I?
> Health care. It's great to see that Health Care companies take in billions of dollars while our rates go up. Probably the only hero in this category has been Wal-Mart and subsequently Target.
> Homeland Security. The war in Iraq does not make me feel safer.
> An utter dependance on oil. If this is taken care of, Homeland Security will be a lot easier. Instead of having to deal with Venezuela or Iran, we'd use our own oil, or natural gas, or sunlight, or electricity, to power our cars that get 40 miles to the gallon. It would also help out with Global Warming, which may or may not be happening. But then again, Iraq may or may not have had weapons of mass destruction, and the country took a strong stand on that.

I'm sure there's other issues, but those seemed to me to be theissues that affected ALL Americans.

I'm not alone, and I'm sure it's obvious by the general displeasure shownin polls and the general feeling that Republicans may be ousted from theCongress and Senate. But this isn't solely aRepublican issue, despite what Democrats say. I place the blameon both parties.

Any action done by either party isresponded with intolerance. People can't see past the party line, unwilling toconsider that the other guy might have a good idea and then nothing gets done.

Well, nothing has been done. And look wheresome of your Congressional mates are now.
