(Aurora, CO) -- The Community College of Aurora's (CCA) newest teaching talent is Jazz Dance Instructor Alicia Nascimento.

CCA's Chair of Arts and Humanities, Wayne Gilbert, said they were looking for someone to teach Jazz I & II and Dance for Musical Theatre for the 2007 fall semester.

"Alicia has trained with some of the most outstanding teachers and companies in the country," Gilbert said. "She's now dancing with the Cleo Parker Robinson dance company in Denver."

Nascimento, who will begin teaching at CCA this fall, was a promising gymnast in high school until she had a serious injury. To keep active, she took dance classes instead.

Taking notice of her natural talent, her dance teacher encouraged her to pursue dance in earnest.

Nascimento took that advice and applied to the University of Arizona, not realizing at the time that it was one of the top dance schools in the country, ranked with such prestigious schools as Julliard.

Only one in 400 students who apply to the university's dance program is accepted, but Nascimento was and she graduated within three years with her Bachelor of Science and Arts (BSA) degree in dance.

After graduation, Nascimento moved to Philadelphia and got a job with the Philadelphia Second Dance Company but relocated to Denver in April.

She got a job with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company, one of the top three in the nation for modern dance.

Nascimento said she studied Cleo Parker Robinson in college and sees the local legend as a part of dance history. Nascimento is thrilled to have worked for Robinson who she said is a master of dance movement

"She is the most amazing person," Nascimento said. "She really cares about people. She made me feel like family."

But Nascimento will join CCA's family this fall and is eager to share her dance movements and knowledge with her jazz dance students at CCA.

Her classes will concentrate on jazz, modern and improvisational dance. She wants to see her students eventually create and perform their own dance movements.

"I love to share what I do," Nascimento said. "I feel so fortunate to be teaching at the college."
