Montbello 20/20 Vision Plan is looking forward!
Contributed by: Rev Dr James Fouther on 7/15/2008

Montbello, "the beautiful Mountain," is our home and a neighborhood we want the city to see more clearly. Last June Kevin Villegas wrote about a shooting in our community in YourHub.com on June 20, 2007 and this is what he wrote in description of our home community, "Montbello is generally a quiet neighborhood. Tucked away in the far northeast corner of the city and county of Denver, it features mostly homes with a few commercial properties. Although it's median household income is lower than the metro area average, it boasts a younger population than average, with 40 percent of households having children at home. That's why it's pretty shocking when an alleged murder happens there." Home is where the heart is and members of this community have now met twice, over thirty at our first meeting and even more at our second meeting. Our next meeting for the Montbello 20/20 Vision Plan is Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Montbello High School beginning at 9:00 a.m. Both myself and Co-Chairman Chris Martinez would welcome you to join us!

We've got more commercial properties in Montbello in 2008 but the folks working on this Montbello 20/20 Visioning Plan would like to see more of our young people graduate from Montbello High School, more residents who take time to beautify their lawns and home exteriors and more residents who vote regularly and consistently. We've identified a need for our Montbello Library to expand to meet the needs of our growing community and we're seeking to put together a Vision Statement that will help all our residents embrace a future where our community grows in many positive, hopeful and helpful ways. Think about when the newest neighbor moved in on your block. Did you go down the street or next door and knock on the door to welcome that neighbor? Let's open our hearts to welcome the efforts of these committed residents who are working on the Montbello 20/20 Plan already. Each resident working on it would enthusiatically welcome YOU to the table too! If you are free on Saturday, August 2, 2008 come out to Montbello High School at 9:00 a.m.and make sure your input is part of the plan, part of the process and part of the bright future our Creator has for our community!

As a pastor who lives here in Montbello with my wife, Angelle, two daughters and dog, Max I want to see Montbello shine as the beautiful mountain again in our vibrant community with our awesome diversity of culture, language and background. Let's come together and plan a bright future for the next generation, for our elders and for everyone in between! Check out my blog http://revjamesfoutherjr.blogspot.com or our United Church of Montbello website http://ucm.ctsmemberconnect.net and send an email or call me at the church, 303-373-0070 and make your feelings known! Come and visit us on some summer Sunday at either 8:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. for worship and while you're here sign up your child for an exciting Vacation Bible School beginning Wednesday evening, July 30th and running weekly through August 13th starting at 6:00 p.m. with dinner included! Let's all come together and keep making Montbello the most beautiful mountain eyes have ever seen!
