Blog Entry 4 of 15 Things, news, whatnot
I'm Karen Ward Gilbert, a (former) community journalist here at YourHub.com. In this blog, I may (have written) about current events, the latest happenings at YourHub.com or blather ranging from what I overheard on the bus to my new favorite chocolate bar.

Puppy-rearin'

I have been a dog guardian for exactly 18 days.

During which, some things I have learned include:
* Bitter Apple spray is worth its weight in gold.
*Puppies play hard, then sleep hard -- and it doesn't matter if the dog is on its beddy or if its half on your leg and half on the floor.
*"NO" to a 9.5 week-old baby dog sounds like "bite harder." Loud yelps seem to work better.
*Pig ears are the most revolting treat I've ever laid eyes on -- so, naturally my dog loves them loves them loves them.

"My dog." I have wanted a dog for as long as I can remember.

So, the past few weeks have been great. And exhausting. And at times, painful.

Anyway, the puppy, Violet, is a terrier mix with seemingly boundless energy and curiosity that nearly puts my cat to shame. She's smart and I'm pretty sure that means I'm in trouble. We'll be attending puppy class just as soon as she gets all her shots.

As for Stewart, my cat, he's not fond of the dog. Apparently he doesn't enjoy being chased. Nor does he seem to dig loud barking.

Thankfully, he isn't holding it against me. And he and Violet are working it out. I believe they'll come to an understanding. (Eventually.)
