The Tesoro Foundation's 8 th Annual Indian Market & Powwow The Tesoro Foundation's Indian Market & Powwow is a yearly showcase of Native American art and dance, featuring top award-winning Native American artists in the United States. The8 th Annual Indian Market & Powwow, held this year on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, 2008 on the grounds of The Fort, will feature new programs supported by The Wells Fargo Foundation and The Denver Museum of Nature & Science to advance the event's celebration of authentic Native American history and culture. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. both days. Since its creation, The Tesoro Foundation has grown considerably through its diverse, family-friendly programming and partnerships with sponsors and educational institutions. Throughout the month of May, Tesoro Foundation sponsor Wells Fargo will host a public exhibit featuring the work of several Indian Market artists in the atrium of their 1740 Broadway location in Denver. The Indian Market & Powwow has also expanded to include hands-on educational activities provided by The Denver Museum of Nature &Science. In addition, a juried art show with over forty-five of the country's most revered Native American artists and a competition powwow will continue through the weekend. Powwow performers demonstrate Traditional, Shawl, Fancy, Grass, and Jingle dances while educating visitors about their meaning and historical significance. The Powwow falls on Armed Forces Day, providing a timely opportunity to honor Native Americans who have served in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Food, storytelling, music, educational activities, and dancing will take place all weekend long.
