“Broadway Babies 4” Opens at Encore

What:	NEXT › ‹ PREVIOUS Broadway Babies a cabaret-style performances have been so popular at Encore School of the Arts summer drama camps that they are repeating it-for the fourth year in a row. Directors Dave Karasik and Katie Wieland have teamed up once again to bring you a fine selection of short scenes, dances and songs. The performances will be held July 25th at 7:00 p.m. and July 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Collegiate Academy of Colorado located at 8420 S. Sangre de Cristo Rd., Littleton, CO, 80127. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for seniors and students, and can be purchased at the door. School Director JJ Israel says that a lot of the success of shows like Broadway Babies is due to the variety. "There's something for everyone in Broadway Babies. Family and friends always come to support the amazing talent of these young people. For others it brings back a lot of memories. We alway invite the community to come and show their support to these amazing young actors and to the arts." Broadway Babies 4 will feature songs from well known Broadway musicals as well as other short, stand-alone performances. The drama camp directors choose these works for their educational significance as well as entertainment value. "The selections this summer vary in style and talent level, pushing the students to focus and rehearse in a way that is challenging," says Karasik. "They never cease to amaze me how they are able to push themselves and work with each other to put on a great show." Wieland agrees. "I wish we could do more," she says of the camp itself. "The students are so much fun to work with, and Encore always attracts extremely talented kids around our local community." Israel gives a lot of the credit for the quality to the directors as well. "The kids have a lot of talent, but our directors and instructors are critical in bringing out the best in the kids and our students have a wonderful time!" The summer students have been so successful that Israel hopes to expand all Encore programs, beginning with the fall school semester, in all departments, music, theatre and dance. She has already posted notices for additional music and dance teachers, and welcomes anyone with a degree in these fields to apply. "Encore is a unique studio," Israel says. "Because we don't depend on sales and rentals of musical instruments and accessories to meet the costs of doing business, we can focus fully on the student's arts education. And that's what we're here to do-educate students in the performing arts." As the studio expands, Israel intends to begin regular recitals and other performance opportunities for students. "We also hope to start a fall band camp program" she says, In the meantime, the drama camps will run as usual. Israel and Encore would love to see you at Broadway Babies 4.
