While every child has unique gifts and abilities, there are some whose intellect is truly gifted. There's a new program in Jeffco Public Schools for four and five year old children who are highly advanced. The Early Access program gives early entrance to kindergarten or first grade for highly gifted children under the age of six.
"These children are exceptional - some are reading complete sentences by the time they are four and doing advanced sense-making with numbers. This early access to kindergarten and first grade will give the children a chance to be challenged in a classroom setting," said
Blanche Kapushion, director of Jeffco's Gifted and Talented Program.
Early access will be available at four different Jeffco schools beginning in August 2009. They are:
•Coronado Elementary in Littleton
•Hackberry Hill Elementary in Arvada
•Kendrick Lakes Elementary in Lakewood
•Parmalee Elementary in Indian Hills

Parents of gifted children are also invited to attend a free seminar given by Dr. Jim Delisle, a nationally recognized expert on gifted children. He will offer tips on raising happy and successful children. The seminar is sponsored by the Jefferson County Association for Gifted Children. RSVP at info@jeffcogifted.org
