Inter-Canyon Fire District improves scores
Contributed by: Daniel Hatlestad on 10/13/2006

Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District (ICFPD) is pleased to announce that the district has received an improved Public Protection Classification. The Insurance Services Office (ISO) analysis of the Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District's structural fire protection system has resulted in a classification of a Class 8 for most areas of the district and a Class 4 for those areas with hydrants.

The new grading could result in a substantial savings to area homeowners and businesses with respect to fire insurance rates. District Fire Chief Bill Lucatuorto encourages all homeowners and businesses to contact their insurance providers to inform them of the new classification. Chief Lucatuorto states he is very proud of the Districts' accomplishment and wishes to commend the district's volunteers for their efforts in obtaining such a positive reduction in the fire protection grading.

Most insurers use the Public Protection Classification for underwriting and calculating fire insurance premiums for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The Public Protection Classification is assigned after a comprehensive review of a community's fire department, communications system, and water supply. The ISO Field Representative spent two full days reviewing the Inter-Canyon Fire Protection capabilities, apparatus, equipment, training and communications.

ISO has advised its subscribing insurers of the classification change and assigned an effective date of December 1, 2006. Specifically, every home and business located within a 5-mile distance from a District Fire Station would receive a Protection Class 8 rating. Subdivisions such as White Deer Valley, West Ranch, and Deer Creek Mesa with hydrants would see a reduction from Protection Class 6 to Class 4.

Every aspect of the review saw improvement since the last review conducted a few years ago. Factors that have contributed to this improved grading include:

-consistent upgrading of firefighting apparatus and equipment

-additional water storage cisterns and hydrants providing water supply

-improved response times for first due fire apparatus

-proactive in-house training program.

The goal of the Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District is to provide the highest level of service to the residents. These services are possible with the support of the citizens, a proactive Board of Directors, and the time and effort of our volunteers. Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District (ICFPD) serves approximately 55 square miles with fire protection, Emergency Medical Services, rescue, and wildland firefighting services. With five stations, 17 vehicles, and 70 volunteers Inter-Canyon Fire Department responds to approximately 350 calls annually.
