If you are looking for an outdoor activity to do with your family and friends this autumn, plan to join the fun of the 18th Annual Foothills CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 21, 1-3 P.M., in Clement Park.
You are invited to come to the Columbine Library on Monday, October 8, at 7 P.M. to hear a talk about how funds from walks have benefited the people of Africa. You can sign up there and then, or
go to
www.cropwalk.org
or
www.foothillscrop.org
to get more information and sign up online.
Besides being a fun and festive event--and a tradition in the southwestern suburbs of Denver--this activity is a great way to help others who are in need here in Colorado and around the world.
Prior to the day of the walk, CROP walkers will collect pledges in person or online. (Walkers who collect 14 sponsors or raise $200 will get a t-shirt on the day of the walk, which they can wear proudly.)
This is an interfaith event. Individuals, families, congregations, service groups, and others will join together for the 5K walk at the Grant Amphitheater to enjoy music and educational activities at 1 P.M. They can bring nonperishable items with them to contribute to the food drive at the walk to benefit Open Arms Food Bank. An hour later, they'll walk together around Clement Park and end back at the amphitheater.
The money raised via the Foothills CROP Hunger Walk goes to work in Colorado, the U.S., and in 80 other countries around the world through Church World Service (CWS). The fundraiser has a five-star rating from Charity Navigator. CWS works to eradicate hunger, to help people with social and economic development, to aid refugees, to aid victims of disasters in the long term, and more.
