In high school, we are forced to face many different people and many different relationships. There are always going to be the people who we envied, the people who we feared, the people who we looked up to, and the people who we loved. Relationships with people are so important in high school. You are always going to remember the friends you made and all the times you spent together, but I think the strongest relationships that people remember are the ones that make you fall in love.
From my freshman year to my junior year of high school, I dated many boys and each one different in their own way. There was the sweet and preppy guys, the hardcore baseball player, my sister's best friend, and the cowboy and each of these guys had their own amazing qualities that made them who they were but in every relationship I seemed to have, none of the guys seemed to catch my heart like I wanted them to. I guess I was looking for love rather than lust. So I finally came to the conclusion that true love can't be found in high school so my search died and the focus of my senior year was set on more important things.
As the summer came to an end and the start of my senior year approached, an old crush of six years entered my life. His name was Tyler and to me, he was perfect in every way. He was very handsome, smart, funny, romantic, and honest. One summer day, he called me wondering if he could take me to dinner and of course, I said yes. So he picked me up and took me to Olive Garden and then we walked around Clement Park and looked at the stars. Every time I gazed into his deep hazel eyes, my stomach did flips and my heart raced and to this day, when I think back on that night, my stomach tightens and a sensation overwhelms my body just knowing how good things were for us.
The first day of school came around the corner like the blink of an eye and this year seemed to have a completely different feeling about it. At the time I didn't know what it was but I was in love. Tyler and I spent all the time we could together and learned about each other from the inside out. Many months passed and we grew in love, but of course, as they say, nothing lasts forever and Tyler and I found ourselves torn apart after five months both with broken hearts and unforgettable memories.
Now I'm not writing this to prove that young love doesn't last or that love is the only important thing in life, the point of the story was to show that relationships with people who you love make you who you are. Whether it's your family, your friends, or your first true love, don't forget to treasure them and never take them for granted because you never know when they could walk out of your life and disappear forever. Remember your friendships and your loves, cherish the memories you've made throughout high school, and remember who made you who you are today.
Never forget the football games, the dances, the girl's nights out, the parties, and never forget the Bear Creek High School Class of 2006 because deep down, we are all apart of each other and connected forever. No matter where life takes you or where you end up, know that you will always mean something to someone whether you are envied, feared, looked up to, or loved.
-Cari Thompson, graduate of Bear Creek High School and now attending Otero Junior College on a softball scholarship
