Over the past week, a significant number of thefts from parked cars were reported in Jefferson County's south precinct.
The majority of the activity occurred on residential streets and driveways and in apartment or condominium parking lots. Neighborhoods south of Bowles Avenue between Simms and Kipling (Powderhorn, Stanton Farms, Alpers Farm) showed the greatest concentration of activity. Thefts from parked cars also occurred in Alkire Acres, Columbine Hills, Dakota Pointe and Ken Caryl Valley, as well as the Whisper Creek Apartments and Dakota at Governors Ranch Apartments.
The thefts are believed to have occured during the night. In almost every incident, suspects entered
unlocked vehicles and rummaged through glove compartments and center consoles. Items that were stolen consisted mainly of small personal electronics, purses, wallets, and other items of value.
