Jeffco Sheriff investigates sex assault


At about 2:30 a.m. on June 26, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a woman who had just been sexually assaulted in her home. Sheriff's deputies, along with a K-9 unit, were in the area within minutes but were unsuccessful in finding the suspect.

The victim, in her 50s, was awakened when the suspect began assaulting her in her bedroom. No one else was inside the residence at the time. The victim was taken to an area hospital for a sex assault examination. It is believed the suspect left the area through a greenbelt or park.

The suspect is described as a white male, with brown hair, in his 20s. He is about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 170 lbs. He was wearing dark blue clothing.

The crime happened in the area bordered on the north by West Belleview Avenue, on the south by West Bowles Avenue, and between South Simms Street. to the east and C-470 to the west.

The Sheriff's Office is advising everyone, no matter where they live, to make sure all of their doors and windows are secured before going to bed. Other protective measures include motion-sensor lights, alarms and Neighborhood Watch programs.
