Inter-Canyon board president dies in plane crash


The Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District Board of Directors is saddened to announce the death of the President of the Board, Robert Chamberlain. Mr. Chamberlain died in a plane accident in Tehachapi, California on Saturday July 4, 2009. The small military-type training jet, which Mr. Chamberlain and David Zweigle, Manager of the Tehachapi Airport were piloting, crashed at 12:30 PM Denver time. Neither pilot survived the crash. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash.
Active with Inter-Canyon Fire protection District Board of Directors, Bob Chamberlain was elected President of the Board. Bob played a critical role in the enhancement of services and development of equipment and stations.
"It is with great personal sadness that I announce that Bob Chamberlain has passed away," said board member Ted Fandel. "Bob provided excellent financial and management leadership to the Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District. He represented the interest of our citizens in meeting the needs in a growing district. I have also lost a great personal friend. Our deepest condolences go out to the Chamberlain family."
"He was a loyal supporter of Inter-Canyon Fire/Rescue and our firefighters, serving the citizens of the district." said Dave MacBean, Chief of Inter-Canyon Fire/Rescue. "We will sorely miss his sage advice and friendship. We are profoundly stunned at the early passing of a good man. We are providing support to his family"
Bob Chamberlain retired as a United States Air Force Colonel in 1990 and retired as a Captain and Flight Examiner with United Air Lines in 2006. Robert Chamberlain is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren. Memorial services are pending.
