It’s No Lawyer Joke!

It's No Lawyer Joke: A prosecutor, a sheriff, and a pediatrician walk into a room declaring opposition to 40!

Coalition doubles in size as Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry (CACI), Colorado Rural Electric Association, the CountySheriffs of Colorado, the Academy of Pediatrics and others join the effort to defeat Amendment 40

Individuals and organizations across Colorado are banding together to defeat Amendment 40. Conservatives, liberals, Republicans, Democrats, businesses and community organizations recognize the serious consequences of the proposed measure and say "Vote No." Amendment 40 is a drastic measure that forces out nearly half of Colorado's appellate judges at the same time.

"It is clear that passage of Amendment 40 means chaos for Coloradans," said John Moye, Vote No 40 Chairman." Forcing out a super majority of Colorado's Supreme Court justices at the same time will create a backlog that will deny justice to individuals and businesses battling for their livelihood, safety and security."

Groups opposed include the American Academy of Pediatrics, Colorado Chapter; Club 20; Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry (CACI); Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE); Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce; U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Colorado Rural Electric Association; and Colorado Association of Family and Children's Agencies (CAFCA). Individuals saying "vote no 40" include Governor Bill Owens; Attorney General John Suthers; Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper; Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer; Mesa County Commissioner Tillie Bishop; former Weld County District Attorneys Stan Peek, Al Dominguez and Bob Miller; former Larimer County District Attorney Stu VanMeveren; former Arapahoe County District Attorney Bob Gallagher; and Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce President Joe Blake. For the complete list, visit www.voteno40.org (updated daily).

Amendment 40 is an initiative that would amend the constitution to limit the time Colorado appellate judges can serve our state. If passed, it will force five of seven Supreme Court justices off the bench at the same time, create a backlog in critical Colorado cases, push good judges out for no reason, and bring partisan politics into the courtroom by giving future governors the power to stack the deck with judges who share their views be they conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat - reoccurring every 10 years.
