HazMat Spill On Loveland Pass

On April 28 at approximately 4a.m. a double box trailer truck combination overturned on U.S. 6 on the west side of Loveland Pass. The two trailers were reportedly carrying eight (8) different types of hazardous products.

Some of the products have spilled and appears to have reached a stream. Two CSP HazMat teams are on scene attempting to contain the spilled products and prevent them from contaminating other water sources which could affect Denver water, The Snake river water district and Dillon Reservoir.

The driver, William Bishop age 25 of Clifton, CO suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene. Any charges against Bishop are pending.

The 2001 Volvo truck is registered to a company in Louisiana.
Several agencies are assisting with the clean up:

  • Colorado State Patrol
  • Colorado Dept. of Wildlife
  • Summit County Sheriff's Dept.
  • Colorado Dept. of Transportation
  • Summit County Fire Dept.

Loveland Pass remains closed in both directions at this time.
