Freedom Service Dogs, Inc., a non-profit organization that adopts dogs from shelters and custom trains them to assist people with mobility impairments, will be the beneficiary of the
First Annual Trail Hounds Fitness Fest, a canine wellness fair designed to help prepare dogs for summer activities.
A coalition of Ken Caryl pet-related businesses including Firehouse Animal Health Center Ken Caryl, Gentle Vet Acupuncture for Pets, Laund-UR-Mutt Ken Caryl and Hoppin' in the Hills Canine Agility are hosting this fun-filled event.
This family- and pet-friendly event includes demonstrations of service dog activities, canine agility (owners can then try the equipment with their own dogs), mini-lectures on pet wellness topics, informational booths, a silent auction, contests and prizes. Booths will highlight information on service dog training, orthopedic exams, stretching, dental exams and nail trims for pet dogs.
"It is exciting to see local businesses come together as a community to support our organization," said Kathleen Fieselman, board chair. "As a board member and a client of FSD, I welcome the opportunity to showcase our dogs, volunteers and dedicated staff."
About Freedom Service Dogs
Incorporated in 1987 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Freedom Service Dogs (FSD) rescues dogs from animal shelters and custom trains them to assist people with disabilities. FSD provides lifetime support to ensure the success of each client-dog team and strives to increase the independence, endurance and peace of mind of the organization's clients. Freedom Service dogs is a local, grassroots organization. Over the course of its two-decade history, the organization has graduated 105 client/dog teams.
We are conducting community-based fundraising drives such as the Trail Hounds Fitness Fest in order to graduate more teams, giving both our clients and these abandoned dogs a new leash on life. For more information, see

Funds received from this grant would go directly to the support and care of service dogs and their owners.
