Stackers speed through town
Contributed by: BrendanHarrington on 4/10/2006

2006 World Sport Stacking Championships held in Denver

Competitors from around the world descended upon the Denver Coliseum on April 8 for the World Spot Stacking Championships.

Formerly known as cup stacking, speed stacking is the timed racing sport of stacking and unstacking cups into a pyramid-shaped tower. Stackers from Germany, Great Britain, Australia and all over the United States competed in the championships. The teams battled it out in a wide range of events and age groups. The Coliseum floor was a swimming mass of cup-stacking children and their parents just trying to keep control. Tables were set up for practice and competition, each with its own referee and timer.

The event was broadcast on ESPN in an hourlong special. The network set up a large stage with lights and cameras, hosting a separate competition. They also filmed a variety of events around the floor.
