Kelly Moore, of Morrison , won first place in the 2007 Bronze Division of the American Vaulting Association's National Competition.
The American Vaulting Association recently held their National Competition at the National Western Complex in Denver. Competitors from all over the United States came to compete in this event.
Vaulting is an ancient sport that is very popular in Europe, but rather unknown in the United States.
It combines dance and gymnastics on the back of a cantering horse. The routines are set to music and the competitors wear spectacular outfits.
There are four canter divisions (or levels) in vaulting: copper, bronze, silver and gold. They are based on the level of accomplishment of the vaulters. There are also A, B and C team levels. Teams are made up of 6 to 8 vaulters, with as many as 3 vaulters on the horse at the same time.
Kelly Moore, of Morrison, has been vaulting with the Golden Gate Team (based in Golden) for just under two years. She placed first in the bronze division in this year's competition.
