A Home Town Fourth of July in Niwot
Contributed by: Kirk Stewart on 6/29/2008

Niwot is fortunate to have its own local community Fourth of July celebrations, and they are sponsored by local businesses and run by local citizens. The festivities include the traditional pancake breakfast, a parade, bicycle events, and bands and music at several local venues around the town. Wear your Red, White, and Blue to the festivities!

Theday starts with the pancake breakfast at 7:30 at Steele's Market in the Cottonwood Center. It is now a standing tradition and is put on by Bert Steele, his friends, and fellow members of the Niwot Rotary. There are more than just pancakes, so come hungry. The funds raised this year will be going to complete the purchase of the railroad car in Whistle Stop Park.

The breakfast will wind up about 9:30 to allow the parade units to form up in the shopping center. The parade steps off at 10:00 am and will go out on to Niwot Road, west to 2nd Avenue, up 2nd to Murray, and south on Murray to Whistle Stop Park, where it will disburse. Expected participants include a color guard, the Niwot Community Band, Girl Scouts, bicycles, and antique cars. After the parade, attendees should check out the bicycles and events for children and adults around town. Also, the music groups from the parade will not stay at the Park, but head for different locations around town and play until noon.

The Niwot Community Band will be playing at Left Hand Corner (2nd and Niwot Rd.). Its membership has grown and it will be playing a variety of songs from the Big Band era, the 60's, and hard rock, as well as the perfunctory patriotic tunes. You may never know who amongst us has closet musical talent until you see the NCB.

The new Rotary Club of Niwot is stepping in to run the 4 th of July Parade for the Niwot Business Association, which is still providing funds. Watch for their yellow "Rotarians at Work" shirts at the events. Matt Dolan is the parade chairman. Call him at 303/530-3261 if you have questions or would liketoparticipate in the parade.

The Rotary club has moved itsmeeting location and is now at Treppeda's Restaurant on 2 nd Ave. Members gather on Thursday mornings for breakfast around 7:10 am(or so)and the regular 1 hour meeting starts at 7:30. The club has had several good talks by Niwot community and county leaders. It is an excellent way to become a better and more involved citizen of Niwot and Boulder County. The club is seeking additional members who have an urge to serve their community and many other good causes. Ask a Rotarian for information and help them get rid of the marble they have to carry until they recruit a new member.
