Blog Entry 64 of 67 Northglenn Revealed
The City of Northglenn has a unique character for the North Metro Area. It seems it is always out of step with the neighbors. Sometimes ahead and sometimes not. I hope my efforts and some meaningful dialog will keep the community stable, secure and an asset to the area.

Gene Wieneke: Your choice for mayor of Northglenn

I am a single issue Mayoral candidate: Re-establish the financial security of Northglenn. If you believe that is the crucial issue at hand I would appreciate your support.

Four years ago, I came in second during Mayor Novak's re-election thanks to the support of Bill Goodspeed and 1,808 voters. Two years ago I easily defeated an incumbent and was elected to the City Council.

During my two years on the Council I've played a major role in the adoption of some significant changes in spending and governance measures. My efforts have been as promised: Do it right; for less.

As the experienced "mechanic" on the Council, I've written and passed many pieces of legislation including the following financial changes: Reduced the city manager's unilateral spending authority by half and limited it to budgeted expenses. Returned the power of establishing employee salaries to the Council. Implemented a hiring freeze and froze the salaries of employees.

In the last six years the city's operating expenses have increased so much that we can no longer rehabilitate, construct or reconstruct our streets without asking you to approve four mills of property taxes. Either join me in cutting non-essential expenses or approve the tax.

We still have a very long way to go and time is running short. If you select me for the job, and support Council candidates who will put you first, we will stop the annual deficit spending.

For continuing information on my commitment to you and local issues please see my weekly and recent postings at Northglenn Revealed online at YourHub. Also check next week's issue of YourHub for my first ad on additional issues. If you wish to help me in a non-monetary manner, call 303-457-0858. Thank you, Gene

Tough crowd, Gene

The Flat Earth Society endorses Gene Wieneke! A single issue candidate? Really? I think Northglenn citizens deserve better; a mayor that will focus on revitalizing the city and one who will to try to bring business and investment here. I for one do not want to live in Federal Heights North. If you want your property values to continue to decline, even as the economy starts to pick up, vote for the "mechanic." If you prefer to live in a community that you'll be proud to call your home, without people pointing and laughing at you, vote for a leader. I don't need a "mechanic" to tell me my car is a clunker. I know when I need a new car.
