Blog Entry 3 of 3 Northglenners Must Say No to Wieneke
NORTHGLENNERS JUST SAY “NO” TO WIENEKE We Northglenners to save our property values must say “No” to Mr. Naysayer, himself, Gene Wieneke. His paid for advertisements are laughable. Speaking for myself, Wieneke has NEVER, EVER represented me as a resident of Ward IV. He claims he listens and is sensitive to the needs of others. What? This cannot be the same Councilman Wieneke from Ward IV who voted down free prescription drugs for all Northglenners – not the same character who wants to do away with urban renewal – not the same guy who looked the other way when his pal, Councilman Erv Baker said that all art funding is “frosting on the cake” and unnecessary – not the same guy who prowls City Staff offices in violation of City Charter Section 3.10 interfering with the work of the City Manager and “his” staff, not Wieneke’s staff. Wieneke is a “passive-aggressive” personality. Passive in that he failed to be part of an open public debate on his attempts to take over the Northglenn Urban Renewal Authority [NURA] and its finances. Aggressive in that Wieneke seeks total control of NURA, so Northglenners need to also vote “No” on ballot question 2H, lest another citizen voice be squelched. He claims he will “protect” us from mistakes. But who will be there to protect us residents from his mistakes. Northglenn is my hometown and I am truly scared with the likes of Wieneke on City Council, much less being the Mayor. He already acts as though he is the Mayor by intimidat

Stop the Nonsense in Northglenn Vote No on 2H

STOP THE NONSENSE!!!

JUST SAY "NO" TO "2H"

VOTE NO ON BALLOT QUESTION 2H -- IT TRANSFERS URBAN RENEWAL (NURA) RESPONSIBILITIES TO CITY COUNCIL!

CLAIM: City Council doesn't like the Mayor to appoint Northglenn Urban Renewal Authority - "NURA" -- Board members.

FACT: This is Colorado law, not unique to Northglenn. City Council then approves the Mayor's recommendations by a majority vote. How can it be said, "Council has no voice?"

CLAIM: A short-sighted Council member stated, "NURA is "lazy!"

FACT: Since inception in 1992, NURA has approved and implemented 55 projects worth $7.7 million dollars - this includes the Marketplace and demolition of the old motel at I-25 and 104 th, replaced by major tax-generating retail.

CLAIM: "Taxation without representation"

FACT: NURA cannot and has never initiated projects without prior City Council approval - what is City Council talking about?

MORE FACTS:

  • Why does City Council's "Majority" want to eliminate citizen involvement and volunteerism? Ballot question 1H will also eliminate the Citizens Affairs Board. Does City Council consolidation of all this power make sense?
  • NURA has never in 16 years EVER exercised Eminent Domain; nor is there any intention to do so.
  • NURA has worked cooperatively with City Councils since 1992. What has happened all of a sudden? Why change what's not broken?
  • NURA's Board has experienced, knowledgeable, and committed VOLUNTEERS to redevelopment of Northglenn's economic vitality. Why throw away this citizen voice? It makes for good government!

JUST VOTE NO!!! TO BALLOT QUESTION 2H

SAY "NO" TO 2H. JUST SAY "NO" & YOUR VOICE IS HEARD!!

How come neither NURA nor the Northglenn City Council have ask the voters to approve spending 12 million dollars on a strip mall at 120th and Grant? Opps...too late. Our hard saved tax payer money has already been spent. I can assure you the voters would NEVER have approved spending that money on such a loser project. Where is the additional 10 million to complete the project going to come from?

Ballot question 2H flies in the face of one of the most important principles we have in Northglenn which is citizen input. If this ballot question along with ballot question 2G passes the citizens of Northglenn will be losing their voice and input. It has the potential to decrease from a minimum of 18 different opinions to just the opinion of 5 members of city council. Is that what we really want. Vote NO on ballot question 2G and 2H to protect your voice in city government!

AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. For a sitting member of NURA I would have expected a better response then this and maybe this is where our problem lies. Westminster, Federal Heights and Thornton City Councils all have the Council handle NURA’s duties which is just what a YES vote for 2H will allow. It seems to be working for them. Maybe it is time for a change in our city before it is too late. A change that allows residents elected officials to get the job done.
