Blog Entry 10 of 17 Take A Bite Out Of Crime
As a child growning up durning the 60's I felt safe in my neighborhood, because all the neighbor's knew each other and watched out for each other and to keep them and there property safe and to keep the crime out of our neighborhood!!! Now these days, you dont know your Neighbor's!!!!!!! We are so busy working and staying to ourselfs that we dont want to Interact with people because of not trusting the right people!!!!!!! As home owner's we need to take a stand against crime and make it a safe place for our children to grown up in, with-out fear that they will be Kidnap in there own front yard or Join a Gang or hang around the wrong kind of people that will Introuduce them to Drug's!!!!!!!! We need to be the Eye's & Ears for our Police Department, they need help so they can help us!!!!!!!!!

Don't mess with the Northglenn Rec Center
Contributed by: Nancy Pfaff   on 12/6/2007

I read a article in Your Hub Under "Voices" on page 8T, "Fixes necessary for local rec center"........."City should pay difference to visit other area recreation sites". After reading this article by Gene Wieneke, I thought I had a snowball thrown at me and heard"GOTCHA"!It didn't get me but the residents in Ward 4.

Gene Wieneke was against the new recreation/Community center from the start because he didn't like the tax increase(no more then $13.00 a month and less for the Senior citizens) but he want's the City of Northglenn to pay for the residents of Northglenn to use the recreation center's outside of the Northglenn area? To me this is a DOUBLE STANDARD! If the City does this then" YES" our taxes WILL go up, and will probable be more then $13.00 per month but doubled or tippled!

He want's to take out the programs at the recreation/Community center, Why? He said "According to last year's survey" only 4 percent of Northglenn residents participated in recreation programs! Not all Northglenn Residents did get this survey and the one's that did most of them did not return them back. I had the opportunity to talk to the residents of Northglenn and nonresidents that use the Northglenn recreation/Community center, and here is what I heard about our Recreation/Community center:

* Not overcrowded

* Love the programs that are offered

* Staff is friendly and out going

* Cleaner then there rec center in there own town

He added also, "I also think it is time to consider using the building for much more then recreational activities"!

The building is used more then recreational activities and a lot of meeting are held there like, Neighborhood Watch Block Captains meetings, volunteering programs with the city of Northglenn, swearing in ceremony for the new police officers and more........What hurts the most is when you are asked "Don't any one care about us? Or" Why" from the children/teens that use the recreation/Community center! Sounds like Gene Wieneke can answer there question's better then I or the other residents of Northglenn can.

To the resident's of Ward 4, you need to wake up and see what is happening. Rosie Garner did so much for all residents here in Northglenn. She is a out going person and is always involved in all events that is going on in Northglenn. She cares how Northglenn looks if not she would not be out helping out on "Clean-up days" here in Northglenn. She heard our concerns and did what was best for us. She work with the rest of the council member's to make Northglenn a better place for us resident's and not by herself.

Gene Wieneke is all ready rocking the boat before he is sworn into Council member Ward 4.

Deb- I have to say I respect the hell out of you. I wish more people would be as committed and up front as you. But I also have to say I don't have much sympathy for wieneke... for years he's attacked people that he shouldn't attack, that don't deserve attack, and he used these attacks to get elected. So I bet no one is going to feel much sympathy if he becomes a target. Of course the best way out is to do a good job running the City. if he does that he'll be okay.

I'm from ward 4 and I'd like to know too. Gene, do you plan on working with the AJ or do you want to can him? I think that's a fair question. Especially since your my council-elect person... Because if you fire him, and you don't give him a chance, and you have to pay his severence and find a new city manager, then your probably NOT doing what the folks in our ward want. You were elected to represent our ward, not your own needs.

Deb- unfortunately, I'm afraid to use my name. I've seen people ripped to pieces for standing up to these people. I hope it doesn't happen to you. In the mean time, I firmly believe that the truth has it's own identity. When I challenge gene on his track record, it speaks to his leadership, which I believe (my opinion) he doesn't possess. You are right- time will tell. And gene can start showing us right now. gene- do you intend to call for the managers termination? Simple question. Yes or no.

Any Mann, you don't have the right to attack Gene either. And, you would be a lot more credible if you used your real name... If neighbors weren't paying attention at the time of elections, then shame on them! I wanted Rosie to stay in office too. The truth is, that the people who were paying attention, and listened when both sides said that it was very important to vote, got what they voted for. Gene needs to get his feet wet and see and learn for himself. He shouldn't accept what he hears from others as fact. Lets give him a chance and see what he can do. Lets see where his heart really is. I wish everyone would calm down and stop name calling, and stop finger pointing and trying to fight it out in the papers. Take it to city council where it belongs.

Gene, you have no right to attack her. It sounds like you want to save a building. She and others wanted to improve and save our rec center. The building that the rec center sits in is only a lifeless shell without the people that work there and the community that uses it. You said you want to remove some of the programs in the rec center. That's what sparked her blog! Nancy and I care about the people that use the building. A building without purpose is worthless. If the Rec center offeres less and less, then it has less value and will become worthless in time.

Nancy, I've openly shared with you as part of a little email group for two years. Now you finally speak up. You should known that the article you criticize is an attempt to save the building from those who want to scrape it off. I'm trying to maintain some recreational opportunities for the residents while your political allies, with the help of the staff, are hell bent on destroying the building so the land can be used for retail development.

Thanks Nancy for the kind words. On topic, I think it's inappropriate for a yet-to-be sworn in Councilmember for Northglenn to be attempting to direct the agenda. There are 8 other members of the Council, and his ideas should be discussed with his council peers where that conversation belongs. There are alot of upset citizens as a result. Mr. Wiselka, I'm sorry you didn't call me prior to the election. Your issues sound like they could have been easily addressed or resolved.

I do not know Rosie Garner or Gene Wieneke. I voted for Gene Wieneke as a protest vote against the City of Northglenn. There comes a point where a city "serving" it's citizens can cross a line and become "harrassment". Northglenn, in my opinion, has crossed that line and I believe Gene Wieneke is a person who will at least attempt to put a stop to it. The city selectively forces some homeowners to comply with ordinances and spent large sums of money for beautification while others are not held to the same standard. Many of the city employees administering this are not even residents themselves - yet they are allowed to judge others. Our business was recently penalized $500 for filing our sales tax late because it was postmarked one business day late (even though it WAS mailed timely). One need only look at the election results and the many empty stores in the Northglenn Market Place to see that both residents and businesses are fed up with the cities recent policies.
