Des Moines Lantern Festival "Illumifest" Sept27

What:	NEXT › ‹ PREVIOUS The city of West Des Moines, Iowa is sponsoring an art contest for local Iowa artists, for 3-D lanterns with the top 20 designs making their debut as temporary public art to decorate the city campus. The completion is made possible by a grant and will culminate in a new community event this fall. We want to create an annual community event and festival with a new twist. THE ILLUMIFEST, a fall festival of light (September 27) in West Des Moines. Applicants will submit a mock-up drawing of their lantern idea. The top 20 will receive $250 to bring their idea to life, and the lanterns will be displayed and auctioned at the fall event. The lanterns will serve as temporary public art for people to enjoy during their walks around the City Campus. The West Des Moines Raccoon River Dog Park is a wonderful facility to use and the city has been cooperative. They are excited to be a part of this community event.

Rated Event

Sounds like a great opportunity to take a road-trip back east to see some old friends back in Iowa. Sounds like a great event that could possibly translate to a Colorado experience. Look for ways to reinvent the lantern. Seems like fun on a cool fall night in Des Moines.
