After an extensive national search David Ramos has been named the new Deputy Chief at North Metro Fire Rescue. This position has been vacant for the Fire District since July 2008 when Joe Bruce assumed the role of Fire Chief. The recruitment process conducted by an independent consultant company, the PAR Group, reviewed 70 applicants from 26 states across the country and Canada. Three previous Fire District Board Directors, with a combined total of over 50 years of service to the North Metro Fire Rescue District, served as a screening committee to review applications and to interview seven final candidates. The committee's and Fire Chief Joe Bruce's recommendation was to appoint David Ramos the new Deputy Chief. This recommendation was unanimous.
David Ramos was serving as a Battalion Chief in the Operations Division at North Metro Fire Rescue District and will assume his new role on November 16. Deputy Chief Ramos began his career with North Metro in October of 1984 as Fire Medic. In 1989, he was promoted to the position of Lieutenant. In 1999, he promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief where for the past ten years David Ramos has managed all on-duty fire personnel for his shift in the areas of fire suppression, special rescue operations, and emergency medical service activities. In addition, he developed, implemented, and managed the Fire District's information technologies.
In addition to his role of Battalion Chief, Dave Ramos has assisted in developing physical fitness, wellness, and technical rescue program areas. He coordinated and managed the dispatching activities for the Fire District and assisted with strategic planning for the Operations Division. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Metropolitan State College, Denver, CO.
The role of the Deputy Chief is to
assign and supervise Division Chiefs and members of Senior Staff; direct the daily operations of the fire department staff; direct the more complex activities at the scene of a fire; perform administrative functions such as budgetary proposals or equipment and apparatus maintenance; and assumes command of the department in the absence of the Fire Chief.
