Art dedication at Northwest Open Space

Northglenn, CO - The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) will host a dedication ceremony for the sculpture, "Open Space" by New Mexico artist George Manus, on Thursday, July 2 at the Northwest Open Space near the entrance at 112th Avenue and Ranch Drive at 5:30 p.m.

Manus will be on hand along with foundation members and city officials. The public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

The sculpture was part of Northglenn's Art on Parade program in 2007 and 2008. The program features on-loan, outdoor sculpture exhibited at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park for one year. The NAHF selected and purchased "Open Space," and will gift the piece to the city of Northglenn at the dedication for permanent display in Northwest Open Space.

"Open Space" is naturally oxidized steel and stone, 6-foot, 2-inches high, and was purchased for $9,500. According to artist Manus, reflecting on his Native American heritage, the piece is a contemporary vision of the mystical buffalo, given by the Great Father. The Native American tradition was to use every part of the animal for warmth, food, mortar, tools, carrying vessels, and used in ceremonies and dances.
