NO for Recreation Center

It is interesting to note all the desperate "pro" letters appearing advocating a new $52.7 million recreation center for Northglenn to replace our present structurally sound full facility recreation center. A similar $52 million tax-eating recreation center ballot question was defeated by Northglenn voters on January 18, 2005.

Having lost on that ballot question the big spenders proposed a more sensible ballot issue to voters on November 7, 2006 to REMODEL and ENLARGE our existing recreation center as follows: "Shall the City of Northglenn commence a ...process to remodel and enlarge the existing Northglenn Recreation Center...with any recommended plan for the remodeling and enlargement of the recreation center to be presented to the city's registered electors for approval at a special or regular election..."

The big spenders have twisted and turned the above ballot question into, yet again, the same lame ballot question we defeated in 2005! As approved by voters above, we are not being asked to "remodel and enlarge the existing recreation center" but to build an entirely new one and bulldoze our existing one! The ballot issue 2A now reads, "Shall Northglenn's debt be increased not to exceed $29 million with the repayment cost not to exceed $52.7 million...for the purpose of providing new community recreation facilities to include..."

Northglenners have been maneuvered and hoodwinked again by the big spenders on City Council. How many times must we weary taxpayers tell the big tax spenders on council and staff to remodel and adequately maintain our existing, structurally sound, full-facility recreation center???

Vote "NO" on a new recreation enter and "NO" to any big tax spenders running for re-election!

I may be wrong but the copy of the 2006 ballot question I have reads: "SHALL THE CITY OF NORTHGLENN COMMENCE A PUBLIC INPUT AND PLANNING PROCESS TO ASSESS THE CITY'S RECREATION CENTER NEEDS, THE PROFESSIONAL FEES INCURED IN SUCH PROCESS NOT TO EXCEED $50,000, WITH THE RESULTS THEREOF TO BE PRESENTED TO THE CITY'S REGISTERED ELECTORS FOR APPROVAL AT A SPECIAL OR REGULAR ELECTION AND WITH ANY BALLOT QUESTION TO INCLUDE THE MAXIMUM COST AND PAYMENT MECHANISM FOR ANY SUCH PROJECT?" Where does it say it is only to look at remodeling the current recreation center?
