Ask Dot: Curbside recycling in Northglenn

Dear Dot,
My question is why do we not have curbside recycling in Northglenn? I don't know of another city in the metro area that does not participate.

Thanks for your question, Patty. According to Terry Pineda, who works for the city of Northglenn's solid waste division, the main barrier for a curbside recycling program is cost. She said that the costs of starting such a program would be unknown until a survey could be done by the city. Luckily, the survey will be doing one in a couple of months to gauge the public's interest in paying for such a program.

There is recycling in Northglenn, however. There are two drop-off sites located within the city, one behind city hall at 11701 Community Center Drive and the other one in Northwest Open Space Park at 112th Avenue and Pecos Street. According to Ms. Pineda, both of these locations take newspaper and co-mingled containers.

Ms. Pineda said that whenever she gets this question, she always tells them to ask the same of their city council member, who is responsible for making these types of decisions.
