My wife is addicted to HGTV or House and Garden Television, which means that I have a "to-do" list that never ends. Last week I polished my "husband of the year" halo by watching a little Divine Design with her. During a commercial break I watched an ad for some new kind of drywall that was paperless because "Mold eats Paper." Mold eats paper? Who knew? I'm not entirely sure I'm familiar with mold (other than the stale bread kind) anyway. My wife however, being from North Carolina informed me that mold is a terrible problem in states where the humidity is high. She said "Mold is to the South what dust is to Colorado". So I said, " if mold eats paper, What does dust eat?" She rolled her eyes and went back to watching Candace Olson, but I seriously sat there pondering the nutritional needs of dirt. I'll tell you what dirt eats. Dirt eats money. Dirt eats our health. Dirt eats our happiness. Dirt even controls some of our decisions. Think about it for a minute. No one likes to clean. Why do we have to clean? Because things get "dirty". DUH. In order to clean we have to have stuff to clean with. So we have to spend money on cleaning supplies and gadgets or machines. If we own a business, we may pay someone to keep our offices clean. Sometimes we pay a company to clean, other times we pay an employee to clean instead of doing their regular job. Either way, dirt eats up our profits and productivity. If you own a school, Day care center, Restaurant, or Healthcare type of business you have to make sure the chemicals you use adhere to strict Federal and Local laws and standards. I won't even start down the old allergens, microbes, pollen and bacteria trail. Although, maybe that's it; maybe dirt eats Benadryl, Claritin, and Zyrtec.
The very thought that dirt has the ability to affect so much of my life began to make me angry. Like most people, I don't like to be controlled. I hate allergies. I like things to be clean and I like to spend money on things that have some sort of lasting value, whether it be Broncos Tickets, Golf, or Ice Cream. So I have decided that the best thing to do is control dust before it controls you. Dirt in the garden isn't a problem. A dirty office, restaurant, nursery, or school is a very big problem.
To launch your own war against dust try a few of the following suggestions:
Stop Dirt at the front door with professional entrance mats.
Use interior mats to trap dirt
Use Microfiber cleaning cloths and mops
Use Microfiber towels
Use Eco-friendly chemical concentrates at proper dilutions
