The City of Northglenn partnered with seven local schools on Earth Day Campus Clean Up on April 22 and 23. Earth Day is celebrated each year to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment. Students from Leroy Drive, Hillcrest, North Mor and Westview Elementary Schools, Rocky Mountain Lutheran High School, Community Christian School, and Crossroads Alternative School pulled weeds, and disposed of trash and recyclable items. 1500 students did their part to make our community a beautiful place to live and go to school.
Each school was acknowledged for their effort by the City with a framed certificate of appreciation signed by Mayor Kathie Novak and bags of candy. The City also provided gloves and trash bags.
Over 350 bags of trash were collected.
As a result of this Earth Day activity, Community Christian School will serve as a Trail Partner and will clean up the Wyco Pipeline Trail on a regular basis. Students at Leroy Drive Elementary School were excited to sing the Earth Day Song to their Principal, Jill Roth. The residents near Rocky Mountain Lutheran High School thanked the students for picking up trash along the streets. All of the 450 students at Hillcrest Elementary School participated in the Earth Day beautification efforts!
Westview Elementary School's First and Fifth Grade Buddies planted flowers to beautify the school's courtyard. North Mor Elementary School's Second and Third Grade Garden Club assisted with pruning rose bushes and general clean up during their after school program activities. Crossroads Middle School cleaned the campus as well as improved the flowerbeds surrounding the school. Many schools will continue the clean up efforts for the remainder of the school year.
The City of Northglenn would like to thank the volunteer mothers, teachers, and school administrators that coordinated the activities in the schools. We would also like to thank our young citizens for taking action to protect the Earth and keeping our community clean!
