Neighborhood Watch and Northglenn Police Officer's
Contributed by: Nancy Pfaff on 6/20/2008

THE PURPOSE OF NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH:

The purpose of Neighborhood Watch is to reduce crime and criminal opportunity. It consists of neighbors helping each other by watching out for each other and reporting suspicious activity to the police. By all of us working together, we can have an impact on neighborhood crime & vandalism.

Consider this:

Criminals don't like Neighborhood watch because they realize...

  • Neighbors know each other and are likely to call the police When they see suspicious activity & vandalism.
  • Individuals have joined Operation Identification by recording

And engraving valuable property.

  • Many homeowners have improved the security of their homes.
  • Every time something is vandalized, we the homeowner's have to pay for it to be fixed or replaced.

BENEFITS OF NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH:

Neighborhood Watch programs are known to install a greater sense of community. Security and well-being, and reduce the fear of crime & vandalism in a community. Neighborhood Watch also brings law enforcement and the community together as a team to reduce crime & vandalism in our neighborhood. Other benefits of Neighborhood Watch include:

  • Being better prepared to respond to suspicious activity & Vandalism.
  • Greater access to criminal activity information
  • Receiving a Neighborhood Watch sign to post in our neighborhood.
  • Get to know your neighbors.
  • Allowing other community issues of concern to be addressed.

WHY SHOULD YOU KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOR?

Getting to know your neighbors, their families, their habits, the cars they drive, their home and work phone numbers, any medical problems they may have, and even their pets are important aspects of a successful Neighborhood Watch program. Knowing these aspects of your neighbors' lives allows you to respond correctly and quickly to any emergency situation and may prevent a crime or save a life.
