Judy practices her healing arts in Centennial, Colorado at Shear Art on East Easter just west of University Boulevard. Her Angel Encounter took place at her former location in Festival Plaza on University near County Line Road. Judy's shop was in the middle of a strip of other businesses, which included a veterinary office.
The shop she co-owned contained a nail salon in the front area. Judy's massage room was situated down a short hall with a second massage room farther down the hall. The two massage rooms shared a common wall. Judy's room, because of her spiritual nature, was covered with angels. Some she had collected and some were gifts from clients. Framed pictures covered the walls, a poster decorated the ceiling, cards and statues filled the room, about a hundred in all.
On the Saturday before Christmas in 2003 the massage therapist in the second room lit a three-wick candle and placed it on a wooden shelf. After her last client of the day had left, the therapist closed the shop for the weekend. She had forgotten the candle.
The following Wednesday when the shop reopened, the co-owner walked inside and found the nail salon portion of the shop covered with black soot. It covered the walls, the ceiling, the furnishings. Shocked, she walked down the hall to try to figure out what had happened. She looked inside Judy's massage room. There was only minor smoke damage on the ceiling. Thankful, she proceeded down the hall to the second massage room. There she found where the smoke had originated: the candle had burned through the wax and deep into the wooden shelf sending black smoke up the wall into the ceiling panels.
The co-owner immediately called Judy, who rushed down to survey the damage. When Judy walked into her massage room, she and her co-owner looked around and marveled at the lack of smoke damage. What had saved her room? Her angels! Not a single angel was touched by the smoke. The smoke had passed over her room and gone into the nail salon area.
To this day, Judy believes and is thankful that her angels saved her massage room and saved the salon from becoming engulfed in flames and burning the entire building, which could have been a real tragedy with the convalescing animals and animals boarding for the holidays in the veterinary office.
