"High Four" wins Northglenn People's Choice Award

Northglenn, CO -- The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) announced on Oct. 23 that Louise Peterson is the recipient of the 2006 People's Choice Award for her bronze sculpture, High Four. T

he award is part of Northglenn's Art on Parade program. The program features on-loan, outdoor sculpture exhibited at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park for one year. The public votes for their favorite, and NAHF works toward purchasing the piece for permanent display in the City of Northglenn. NAHF has already secured partial funding for the piece from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). The foundation will continue fundraising through May of 2007 in an effort to purchase High Four.

The piece was inspired by two Great Danes: Hamlet, a Dane well-known in the show ring for his high five, and a friend's Dane with its dew claws removed. Thus the piece became "High Four." High Four will remain on display in E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park through May 2007, at which time six new sculptures on loan will be installed and the permanent location for High Four will be announced.

The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) is a 501(c)3 organization committed to maintaining and nurturing the cultural arts in the Denver, Colorado area's north metro communities. NAHF was founded in 1990.

I was able to talk to Louise Peterson when we had the sculptures presented the first time. As a volunteer for the City of Northglenn and a member of the Arts and Humanities committee I was able to see pictures of all the statues that were reviewed. There were many beautiful sculptures and to pick just a few was very difficult. Louise's dog "High Four" just spoke to me. A little like my dog Duke rings a bell. I was glad to see it be the winner. Louise was a very nice and personable lady and I hope we get to see more of her art. Leonard G. Avery
