Thirteen girls from Troop 2684 earned their Bronze Awards in two very different projects offered this year. One was to plan and carry out a Try-it day for local Brownie troops and the other was to sew fleece hats for adults and kids who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy.
The girls began their projects back in the fall of 2006 with the initial planning sessions. In February and March the girls earned Girl Scouting in the USA and Girl Scouting around the World, and the Sign of the World, Another step was to earn the Sew Simple and the My Community badges.
In preparation for the final projects the Troop decided on what 4 requirements would be completed for each of the 6 Try-its eventually chosen for the event. They compiled shopping and equipment lists along with figuring out how to share the instruction responsibilities.
The girls who were working on the Caps had to decide where they could complete the long sewing project ahead. A weekend camping trip was the final decision however; no one anticipated the amount of time that would eventually be needed to complete 100 of the warm fleece hats.
The girls completing the Bronze Award this year were:
Addie Mckendrick, Alyssa Hatfield, Ashleigh Cooper, Austi Krantz, Ciera Niell, Delaina Moore, Emma Coffey, Mackenzie Patrick, Madaline Sears, Madison Magor, Missy Spencer, Nelly Grantham, Sonja Hansen
The Bronze Award is the highest and most complex award that a Junior Girl Scout can earn and hopefully sets the stage for the girls to move forward to earning the Silver and even the Gold Award.
