After an extensive national search Joseph Bruce has been named the new Deputy Chief at North Metro Fire Rescue. This position has been vacant for the Fire District since January 2007. The recruitment process conducted by an independent consultant company, the PAR Group, reviewed 52 applicants from across the country. Three previous Fire District Board Directors, with a combined total of 45 years of service to the North Metro Fire Rescue District, served as a screening committee to review applications and to interview seven final candidates. The committee's recommendation to Fire Chief John O'Hayre was to appoint Joseph Bruce the new Deputy Chief. This recommendation was unanimous.

Joseph Bruce was serving as the Division Chief of Operations at North Metro Fire Rescue District and has immediately assumed his new role. Deputy Chief Bruce began his career with North Metro in September of 2001 as the Division Chief of Training. In July 2003, he was appointed to the position of Division Chief of Operations, in which he oversaw the daily operations of the Fire District including, fire suppression, special rescue operations, and emergency medical service activities.

Prior to his employment at North Metro Fire Rescue District, Deputy Chief Bruce served as the Adams/Jefferson County Hazardous Response Team Coordinator for five years. In addition, he has served as the Fire Chief for two rural Colorado fire departments and held roles a Battalion Chief, Fire Inspector, and Fire Marshall over his 30 year fire service career. His career began in the United States Air Force, serving four years as a Fire Protection Specialist.

The role of the Deputy Chief is to assign and supervise company officers; direct the daily operations of the fire department staff; direct the more complex activities at the scene of a fire; perform administrative functions such as budgetary proposals or equipment and apparatus maintenance; and assumes command of the department in the absence of the Fire Chief.

North Metro Fire Rescue is dedicated to your quality care. North Metro Fire Rescue provides fire protection, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response and rescue services to their community. Formed in 1946, the district now covers 115 square miles with a population of approximately 115,000 people including the City and County of Broomfield, the City of Northglenn and unincorporated areas of Boulder, Adams and Jefferson Counties.
