Northglenn, Horizons North team up for shredding
Contributed by: City of Northglenn Public Communications on 5/7/2008

Northglenn, CO - The City of Northglenn and Horizons North Credit Union are doing their part to make sure your important documents don't wind up in the wrong hands.

The two groups are hosting a community shred event from 9 a.m. to noon May 31 at the credit union, 11455 Pearl St. in Northglenn. The event is free and open to the public.

Citizens are encouraged to destroy documents such as old bank statements, credit card offers, cancelled checks, old medical records, pay check stubs or anything else with personal information on it, so they can't be used to commit fraud.

"We take crime reports relating to fraud, forgery and identity theft everyday," said Northglenn police officer Terrie Hoodak. "Unfortunately, this crime has gotten easier with technology."

Denver-based company Shred It will have a truck on site, rain or shine, so citizens can watch their papers destroyed. Each person may bring up to three copy boxes or one large trash bag full of confidential material.

Members of the Northglenn Police Department will be on site providing identity theft information.

If that's not enough, free hot dogs will be available.

For more information, contact Krista, at Horizons North Credit Union, at 303-451-1146.
