Help for Homes to aid Northglenn residences
Contributed by: City of Northglenn Public Communications on 5/9/2008

A new housing rehabilitation program called Help for Homes will soon be available in Northglenn.

The program is a partnership between the City and Brothers Redevelopment, Inc. (BRI) and is funded with part of the City's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) 2007 allocation.

BRI is a non-profit organization that was established in 1971. They provide a variety of housing and housing services to low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners throughout the Denver metro-area.

BRI, through its' Home Maintenance and Repair (HMR) Program, will assist the City's HFH program, by making repairs to the homes of low-and moderate-income homeowners to improve their habitability, provide accessibility modifications, address health and safety issues and remove code violations.

The project goal is to improve the health, safety and sanitary conditions of the homes of low-and moderate-income homeowners who do not have the financial or physical ability to make the needed improvements themselves. HFH will provide assistance through either the general repair program or through the code violation referral program.

A total of $70,000 will be available for the general repair program. Eligible homeowners can receive grants up to $3,500. Approximately twenty (20) households will receive services through this program.

A total of $30,000 will be available for the code violation referral program. Eligible homeowners can receive grants up to $1,000 for repairs to correct cited eligible code violations. Approximately thirty (30) households will receive services through this program.

Program Eligibility:
• Home is within Northglenn
city limits.
• Live in and own the home
proposed for repair.
• Federal CDBG income
guidelines.

The Help for Homes Program will achieve several positive results in Northglenn: to increase the value of homes, help families who otherwise would not be able to repair their homes, and improve the appearance of the neighborhood.

Specific information on eligibility and application procedures will be made available later this month
