NGPD hosting candlelight vigil for fallen officers
Contributed by: City of Northglenn Public Communications on 5/12/2008

The Northglenn Police Department is hosting its fifth candlelight vigil to honor the memory of officers killed in the line of duty as part of National Law Enforcement Memorial Week.

The event is 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, on the west side of E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park, 11800 Community Center Dr. in Northglenn.

The park is named in honor of Cpl. Edgar Blaine Rains Jr., the first, and only, Northglenn officer to be killed in the line of duty. In 1984, Rains was shot while answering a call to a home, later dying of his injuries. The next year, Webster Lake Park was renamed after him.

"We also wanted to honor all of the officers who have given their lives. The sacrifices that they have made are worth remembering," said Northglenn Police Cmdr. Beth Carmosino. "They have all left loved ones behind, whom we want to honor as well."

Besides the Northglenn Police Department, other law enforcement groups participating will be the Adams County Sheriff's Office, Brighton Police Department, Federal Heights Police Department, Denver Police Department, Denver Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado State Patrol.

The event is open to the public. Officers attending the event are asked to dress in uniform, but it is not required.
