Northglenn recognized for financial reporting
Contributed by: Celeste Flores-Olinger on 5/8/2008

For the first time, the City of Northglenn received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fiscal year beginning 2008.

The Certificate of Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest recognition in governmental budgeting for any local government and shows that the City provides a budget that is clear, understandable and provides complete information on all funds subject to appropriation.

"Congratulations to the Finance Department for their excellence in governmental budgeting," said Northglenn City Manager A.J. Krieger. "Their outstanding efforts and hard work promote City Council's goal of a fiscally responsible city government and transparency in government reporting that citizens can be proud of."

The GFOA established this specific award in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments in preparing budget documents of the highest quality, reflecting guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and GFOA's recommended practices on budgeting.

In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally-recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation and be rated as "proficient" in all of the following:

- a policy document
- a financial plan
- an operations guide
- a communication device

In Colorado, 49 participants submitted budgets and ten received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
