From May 1, through May 31, Northglenn residents can throw their "hat in the ring" for the lottery drawing of a free toilet! The City of Northglenn purchased 500 Caroma brand, dual-flush toilets to replace older, high-volume toilets with grant monies received from the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
By replacing these high-volume toilets, the city expects to save 20 - 25 acre feet of water annually. The cost to purchase 20 acre feet of water is estimated at $11,000 per acre foot or $220,000 per year!
In order to qualify for a free toilet, you must meet the following requirements:
• Own residential property in Northglenn.
• Replace an older toilet (at least 15 years old) at the property in Northglenn.
• Be a legal U.S. citizen and be able to come to city hall during the month of June to verify legal status.
• Be able to pick up your new toilet on Saturday, July 26, 2008.
• Install the new toilet by October 2008.
• Allow city personnel access to meter your actual water savings.
• Agree to complete a survey for the city.
The new toilet will include tank, bowl, seat, wax ring and bolts. Any additional equipment will be the sole responsibility of the homeowner. This is a distribution program only. Installation is the responsibility of the homeowner. Each residence is limited to one free toilet.
Before registering, take a moment to make sure that the toilet will meet your needs. The toilet's dimensions are:
Height: (floor to top of tank) approximately 32 inches.
Bowl height: approximately 15 inches without seat.
Seat: standard, rounded bowl (not elongated or ADA).
Width: (widest section) approximately 19 inches.
Color: toilets are white.
View a detailed drawing of the toilet at:http://www.caromausa.com/products/toilets.php and select the Sydney 305 model or come to City Hall to see the actual model.
Register on the city's Web site at: www.northglenn.org, in person at the front desk at city Hall, or by calling 303-450-8782. You will need your City of Northglenn utility bill account number to register. The selection process will be a random, computer-generated drawing. Winners will be notified via mail in June. Notification will include instructions on how to pick up the toilet.
Can't wait for the give away or want a sure thing? The city's toilet rebate program is continuing. Rebates are for residential or commercial residents. For details on the rebate program, visit the front desk at city hall or go to http://www.northglenn.org/p205.html and download the application.
