Northglenn hydrants to get flushed in May
Contributed by: City of Northglenn Public Communications on 5/9/2008

Beginning on May 5, City of Northglenn Public Works and Utility crews will begin flushing all city fire hydrants. This will be done Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Weather permitting; the entire process should be completed by the end of the month.

If you happen to notice a slight rusty color to your water during the month of May, there is a good likelihood that the fire hydrants in your neighborhood were recently flushed. You can alleviate this problem by turning on all your faucets at the same time for a few minutes to flush out the pipes. If you encounter rusty colored water, please avoid using the washing machine until your water runs clear to prevent discoloration of clothes. While you may be concerned to see rusty colored water, it is not harmful to your health.

This is an important maintenance procedure to preserve the water quality in the city's distribution system and to make sure that the hydrants are in proper working order for fire protection purposes. As always, we appreciate your understanding and patience during our hydrant-flushing program. Please call 303-280-7818 if you have any questions.
