Le Peep, sheriff team up for Special Olympics
Contributed by: Adams County Sheriff's Office on 9/27/2005

On Sept. 24, Le Peep Restaurant at 421 W. 120th Avenue in Northglenn will partner with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office to raise funds for Special Olympics.

Over the past 21 years, the Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement employees have participated in the Torch Run® for Special Olympics.  In order for this project to be successful, funds are raised each year by local law enforcement agencies.  One of the many Torch Run® events is Tip-a-Cop, where deputies and other employees work together with local restaurants staff for tips.  The difference is that the tips given to the law enforcement volunteers go directly to Special Olympics Colorado.

On this day, deputies will work a shift at the restaurants for tips.  Each Sheriff’s Office employee, dressed in uniform, will pair up with wait staff and assist them with serving the customers.  All tips earned will go towards Special Olympics Colorado.  This effort helps allow Colorado Special Olympic athletes an opportunity to participate in self-esteem and confidence-building athletic activities free of charge.  We will also have the K9 Unit available given demonstrations and answering questions from the public.

Along with the effort and support of the Sheriff’s Office, the Denver Broncos Charities fund and the McCormick Tribune Foundation has agreed to add forty cents to every donated dollar statewide up to $75,000.

Sheriff Darr said, “This is great opportunity for us as a law enforcement agency to give back and to support a wonderful program for athletes with developmental disabilities.  In today’s society, we have able body athletes who don’t appreciate their physical abilities.  Special Olympics athletes don’t have a choice.  This is where the rubber meets the road, and I am proud of the Adams County Sheriff's Office personnel who are willing to help those who won’t be interviewed on national television, or recognized for breaking a world record.  They are there just to have fun and to have an opportunity to compete.  It’s equally important to recognize the businesses who have stepped forward to help and are willing to support those who have special needs.”

The media is welcome to participate in these events.  If you wish to attend any or all of the events, contact PIO Sgt. Louis Dixon at 303-655-3206.  I will also send our reminders the day before the event.
