Crime reported by Brighton Police

A 30-year-old Brighton man
was taken into custody Oct. 18 for alleged possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. An officer reported he was patrolling the 500 block of East Bromley Lane at 2:56 a.m. when he observed a man dressed in dark clothing walking down the street. The officer contacted the man, who he recognized as a known criminal offender, to ask him where he was going, according to the report. A preliminary background check on the man allegedly revealed two warrants for his arrest. As the officer was patting the alleged suspect down for weapons, he felt a cylindrical object tucked in his lower left leg and stated, “this feels like a drug pipe.” The suspect allegedly replied, “yeah, that’s usually what it’s used for.” The officer also allegedly found a marijuana joint in the suspect’s shirt.

A 23-year-old Brighton man
allegedly became hostile to police officers Oct. 14 after he was issued a summons for suspicion of DUI. According to a report, the alleged offender was pulled over on the 100 block of East Bromley Lane at 12:40 a.m. for swerving in and out of traffic lanes, according to the officer. The man allegedly admitted to drinking three margaritas that night and later failed a roadside sobriety test. The reporting officer stated the man became extremely agitated after he was transported to the police department, allegedly spitting on the glass cell door and later urinating on the floor of the holding cell. He also refused to look at the camera during his mug shot, according to the report. A blood test revealed the man had a .169 blood alcohol level, according to the report.

A 53-year-old Commerce City man
was arrested at a popular convenience store Oct. 15 after allegedly attempting to steal merchandise. The suspect, who was charged on suspicion of intentional bodily injury and shoplifting, was chased down in the parking lot of the store located on the 0-100 block of West Bromley Lane at 5:44 p.m. after allegedly attempting to steal several DVDs movies. He was tackled from behind by a security officer, according to the report. A scuffle ensued and the man allegedly swung back and hit the security officer in the chest, which knocked her backward and caused her to she hit her head on the pavement. The alleged suspect attempted to get up and run away but was chased down by a customer in the parking lot. The security officer, a 27-year-old Loveland woman, later informed told paramedics she was pregnant.

A 46-year-old Lakewood woman
was arrested Oct. 15 after being caught with suspected heroin and methamphetamine. An officer reported he was conducting routine patrol on the 6100 block of U.S. 85 at 8:42 p.m. when he observed a maroon Chevrolet illegally make a right hand turn at a stoplight. He pulled the car over and asked the driver for her license and registration which she could not provide. A subsequent search of the woman’s car allegedly revealed a suspected crack pipe, several spoons with suspected heroin residue, two balloons filled with suspected heroin, rolling papers, an open box of unused hypodermic needles and several used needles filled with suspected heroin. The woman was arrested and later allegedly stated she has been addicted to heroin for several years. She and charged on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and compulsory insurance.

A 23-year-old Commerce City man
was arrested Oct. 16 on suspicion of public indecency. According to a report, a police officer was patrolling the 6400 block of East 72nd Place at 12:12 a.m. when he observed a man allegedly urinating on the side of a parked vehicle. The alleged offender saw the officer drive by and attempted to walk away but was detained, according to the report. The officer stated the man appeared to be very intoxicated. He was issued a summons for public indecency and later transported to detox.

A 45-year-old Commerce City man
was arrested Oct. 17 after he allegedly struck another man in the head with a bat. According to a report, an officer responded to a trailer park located on the 6600 block of Colorado 2 at 10:11 p.m. on a report of a disturbance in progress. The officer contacted a man whose head was bleeding from an open wound on his forehead. The alleged victim stated he thought his arm was broken. An investigation revealed the man and the alleged assailant were drinking and watching a sports game in his trailer when an argument broke out. The suspect stormed out of the man’s trailer after he was ordered to leave but later returned, armed with a 3-foot wooden handle, according to the report. The suspect allegedly hit the man over the head with the object, according to the report. The man attempted to deflect the blow with his forearm but was mostly unsuccessful. Officers later walked over to the suspect’s trailer and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree assault, according to a report.

A 22-year-old Northglenn woman
was arrested Oct. 12 for allegedly attempting to run over her boyfriend. Officers were dispatched to a house located on the 600 block of West 100th Place at 5:20 p.m. on a report of an assault in progress. A 25-year-old Thornton man stated his girlfriend attempted to stab him and later clipped him with her car, according to a report. The man had injuries consistent with his claims, according to the officer. A knife matching the description was also found in the woman's car. She was arrested without incident and transported to the police department on suspicion of domestic violence and second-degree assault.

Police are investigating a series of burglaries
involving laundry machines. According to reports, hundreds of dollars worth of coins have been stolen from laundry machines in recent weeks. A laundry machine located in an apartment complex on the 700 block of East 105th Place was robbed of $100 worth of quarters Oct. 13, according to a report. Another laundry machine in an apartment complex located on the 300 block of Malley Drive was robbed Oct. 12 for approximately $480 in coins, according to a separate report. Police are actively investigating both burglaries.
