ROTARIANS CARE FOR

COMMUNITY

Northglenn-Thornton Rotarians come together every Tuesday at 12:10 at the Castle and give up much time to solve community problems. Whether it means helping out at the Senior Hub; or becoming a mentor to someone who could use a friend and role model. There is an abundance of opportunities in our area to volunteer and do something outside of ourselves; to help enhance the lives of others and the community as a whole.

OLDER PEOPLE WATCH

I think a Neighborhood watch will help our older people. We try to look out for one another. Criminals know there are people watching. We actually do have people out walking the neighborhoods looking for suspicious activities, while getting our daily exercise; like car parked for more than 24 hours. Our people are the eyes and ears. We WANT training sessions to know what we can and can't do as citizens, not as an enforcer, but more of an informed reporter.

A Neighborhood Watch can help just by easing the fear that it is not a bad thing to pick up the phone and report a crime. If you see something that doesn't look "right", pick up the phone. We need all residents to help keep our community safe.

WASH YOUR HANDS

WASH YOUR FOOD

LAUNDER YOUR TOWELS

The easiest way to prevent DIS-EASE. Wash your HANDS. WASH your Food. Replace your KITCHEN SPONGE. Launder your kitchen and bath towels in HOT WATER and BLEACH.

DRUNK DRIVING

"OVER THE LIMIT-UNDER ARREST"

No exceptions: No warnings: No 2 nd chances. Help prevent drunken driving by serving as a designated driver and not letting friends drive impaired. And if you see a drunken driver on the road, dial 911. Alcohol related crashes kill & injure hundreds, thousands, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS.

DO NOT HESITATE TO REPORT HAZARDOUS MATERIALS SPILLS

One reason that people don't report it is that they don't realize how harmful it can be. One broken thermometer, inadvertently vacuumed will atomize and fumigate a room and can kill. www.eppa.gov/mercuryspills/index.htm

ENFORCE NOISE ORDINANCE

People complain of vomiting, headaches, and sleeplessness when around vibrating cars and diesel that spew noise pollution and pollution / pollution. We get our senses assaulted with year- round fireworks, motorcycles, and constantly howling / barking dogs. Northglenn needs an enforces noise ordinance.

YOUTH CURFEWS WORK

Other cities report that youth curfews have made city streets safer for all residents, have curbed gang violence and have proven to be a good use of police officers' time.

There is no useful purpose for juveniles to be out late at night.

This is a good tool to protect children. Enforcement of curfews serves to protect them from being victimized by the "criminal element." Most parents don't even know their children are outside the home.

Teenagers should be allowed to enjoy the amenities of our town, but they shouldn't be allowed to ruin the experience for others. It is better to act now than to wait for this problem to erupt again.

WHAT TO BECOME ?

What is it we want to become? How do we get there? What are the priorities? Where do we get the resources ?

The streets , water, sewer, power, and communications all must continuously be expanded and maintained to properly serve a growing population. People will move here because they want to live here. Our city must be kept clean and protected from crime.

Creating a high density urban community where people, of all ages and incomes can work, live, and play. It is essential to our long term viability. People like to walk, bike and live without having to rely on an automobile, and enjoy the company of others. Transit can be improved by offering smaller point to point shuttles. This doesn't happen by itself.

City Council lacks the courage to wade into this river. Our civic leaders are unable to agree on a long term vision for Northglenn , much less gather any resources or commitment to make anything happen.

Leadership comes in many forms. We look to our Northglenn leaders to set public policy, provide municipal services, educate the public, and build public infrastructure and institutions. An educated citizenry has the responsibility to participate and encourage civic action. All of us have skills to bring to the table. We need to utilize local talent and demand they perform in a world class manner. We need a common cause, not a common enemy.

With limited resources, we need a set of priorities and move together. Communities that have a common purpose and speak with one voice, are in a much better position to acquire more resources.

Planning ahead brings results. But it takes a leadership that is willing to lead beyond which is comfortable and map a course, that we c an really, rally behind and support. The fabric of our community is built by visionary individuals that put themselves at risk to take action.

I feel the number one priority is jobs to fuel the economy that will sustain us. Education, health-hygiene, tourism, restaurants, construction are other priorities.

As a community, we must provide a climate that is conducive to creating and sustaining small business and build vibrant urban places that attract people and provide market for goods and services, for local businesses.

We must provide EDUCATION, training, facilities, and support services for local businesses. We must match jobs with existing skill sets and ensure access to employment for all those ABLED BODIED to WORK.

We must promote those things in which we excel and create a Northglenn brand that is known internationally. It is time to become a destination net employer.

Support the creation of new local businesses and expand those that have proven themselves. Local government can become a service to business and help build a quality infrastructure vital to success. Local businesses and development is the lifeblood of any community, and needs to be encouraged.

I will look for these character traits.

TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPECT, FAIRNESS,

RESPONSIBILITY, CARING, CITIZENSHIP

These pillars of character are important to us as parents and voters selecting men that will lead our city, and country. Our charge is to mentor a new generation of youth, by desire to become better people and embrace leadership.

A leader must be willing to lead not only when it is easy and popular, but when it is difficult and unpopular. Leaders are visionaries with an undeveloped sense of fear and no concept of the odds against them. They make the impossible happen. Our job is to make sure they do it with character.

A person who is worthy of being a leader wants power not for himself, but in order to be of service. They look for ways to respond to the needs and interests of their constituents. They concentrate on the constituent.

Serving others is the most rewarding of all leadership tasks.

While everyone is concerned with accomplishing some thing BIG; life is made up of a lot of little things.

I have lived in Northglenn for many years and have seen many different people, with the many years of watching those who made effective Councilmen, and those who didn't. Certain qualifications seemed to be common to all successful Council members.

They must have lived in the City for a number of years to gain appreciation for what a wonderful community we have. They are committed to spending taxpayers money wisely in ways to bring positive results in and to Northglenn. They are strong supporters of Police and Fire Departments to protect our citizens. And have a strong understanding of family values and guided by strong Christian principles. They are men, and women, of integrity.

I take my right to vote, and who I cast my vote FOR, very seriously. Whether it is at Colorado, Adams County, or City of Northglenn; it takes character, integrity, passion, and the necessary dedication required to fulfill the duties of an elected office and effectively serve the public.

There are individuals who are either NOT WILLING or too frustrated to vote, much less make the necessary sacrifices and commitments in their personal and professional lives to get involved in government.

Public service is not a part-time job. The hours are not command by the clock. Nor, defined by personal commitments. It is a CALLING. It is giving oneself to others.

Northglenn is already a great community, and we have room for improvement.

Aspiring leaders, take significantly different approaches to change. Servant leaders seek to serve others and create a community that works. Long term benefits for the entire community is the sustainable approach. He thinks and acts for the present and the future good. And above all, he seeks to serve us all.

Voters may have to base their decision on what they feel a re the intricate qualifications for the job. Will they safeguard fiscal responsibility during tough economic times?

Communication is another priority between the Council and residents to strengthen relations with community partners, leaders, and ENHANCED TRANSPARENCY in Northglenn government.

As a taxpayer, I want nothing missing, or LATE, from BUDGETS, to appropriations, to PAYROLL, bill paying, AND dealing with the state. And while we're at it "Keeping an eye on equipment and project purchases."

I feel a great deal of sympathy for those that believe the political garbage of the liberals, put out to buffer those that oppose their political philosophy. Trash talk; indefensible accusations serve only to change the focus of discussions. These folks have zero desire to make their own ideas a reality. They have no ideas!

Politicians who wallow in such garbage should be defeated. Vote for the candidate with vision, experience, and temperament.

I have never understood the concept of “OUTSIDE-DOG”. Seeing a chained of penned “backyard dog” has always baffled me. Why do people get a dog if to relegate him to a forgotten isolation. Many seriously neglected. Lack of fresh, unfrozen water, adequate housing, hygiene, and basic veterinary care. Days can go by; no food, no water; no human contact; conditions go unnoticed. As a community we can outlaw chaining. Especially in the winter.

Confucius and his disciples were passing through a remote and deserted region when they came upon a woman weeping beside a grave. The master asked her why. A tiger had killed her husband, she explained, and her husband’s father; now it had slain her only son. “Why then do you live in this savage place?” asked Confucius. “Because there is no oppressive government here,” was the reply. “My children,” said Confucius to his followers, “remember that oppressive government is worse than a tiger.”
