Local boy selected to be a Student Ambassador
Contributed by: Darius Ortega on 12/7/2006

My name is Darius Ortega, and I am in the 6th grade student at Hulstrum Options School. My 5th grade teacher Velma Kusuno recently nominated me to the People to People Ambassador Program, I recently applied, and was selected for an interview and was also accepted to patricipate in the 2007 People to People Student Ambassador Program.Where I will trave to Scotland and England for twenty days in June of 2007. The objective of the program is to promote international understanding while building leadership skills among American's youth. The twenty one days will include many once in a life time experiences such as meeting the Queen of England, interacting with other students of my own age from these beautiful foreign countries, educational activities, and home stays with host families.

I am currently seeking financial sponsors to help me with the tuition for my journey, and or donations of merchandise or gift cards form your company that I can use in the many raffles my family and I will be hosting throughout the year too assist in my fundraising efforts. I hope that I can count on your support.

In case you haven't heard of the People to People, please allow to share some history with you. President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded the organization in 1956. He believed that if people from different cultures could come together in peace and in friendship, so eventually would countries. Since founding People to People it has launched many international programs, including Sister Cities, project Hope and Pen Pals.

People to People Student Ambassadors are carefully interviewed and evaluated before their accepted and I am honored to have been selected. Personally, I am looking forward to boarding my perspectives of the world and gaining a better understanding of England and Scotland. As an Ambassador, I can also earn high school and college credit because of the many educational elements in the program.

My program tuition is $6,000, which includes all transportation, meals and educational activities. I am asking for any contribution or any donations to help me reach my goal. If it is possible for you assist in making a contribution of any amount it would be greatly appreciated.

My program tuition is due March 1, 2007. Please make checks payable to Darius Ortega. Your generous contribution would allow me to share in this once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.

Sincerely Yours-

Darius Ortega

Darius, congratulations for making it into the program. My daughter was accepted in high school - it is quite an honor. But please, please, remove your home address and school information from your article. It is very dangerous for a child to post that information on the internet.
