Helping Hands For HOPE!
Contributed by: Tracy Dalton on 3/24/2007

This year, more than 19,000 Coloradans will be diagnosed with cancer and 6600 will lose their battle with the disease. With statistics like these, I am sure that everyone who reads this will be touched somehow.

Since 2002, volunteers and participants in the Relay for Life at Webster Lake have been raising funds for the American Cancer Society in hopes that their friends and family will not have to face this disease in the future.

Each year, hundreds of your friends, family, and coworkers gather at Webster Lake for a giant outdoor slumber party with a purpose. The special guests at our party are those who have fought hard and won their battle with cancer and those who are currently fighting. We also take time away from the celebration for a quiet, candlelight ceremony to honor our loved ones who have fought this battle - some have won, others have not.

A party would not be a party without food, games, and entertainment. As you can imagine, entertaining several hundred people can be very expensive, so we rely on the generous support of the community to make this possible.

Aside from the celebrations that take place at Relay, we are also dedicated to educating the community about cancer awareness and prevention. Many cancers, such as those caused by tobacco use, heavy alcohol consumption, obesity, poor eating habits, and sun exposure can be 100% prevented.

I know that if you ask anyone who has participated in Relay for Life if is has changed their life or made it better in any way, they would reply with a definite "yes". Relay is a place of hope and encouragement where young and old alike are working toward a common goal.

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at Webster Lake will take place on September 8th and 9th at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park. We would be honored if you would be a part of this experience by awarding us a $1,000 grant to help offset the costs of the event and by participating as a team.

Please call me at 303-456-2272 or 303-710-9998 if you would like more information about the event or other activities that we will be doing throughout the year.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Every American has the potential to get cancer, and the potential to cure cancer!
