Tamara
had played soccer seven years but she has played competitive soccer for the last 4 years.
This last August, Tamara got hurt in Broomfield Blast Tournament . When Tamara fell, she fell on her right arm, she thought she could tough it out like the rest of her previous injuries.
The following weekend her Broomfield Blast U14 red team played in the Colorado Open 2006. In that tournament, she further injured her right arm again but this time something made her say how bad it was. Her arm swelled and she had numbness in her fingers. Now that it was affecting her, she ask for some Advil and wanted to still play the game she loves. Since Tamara still played, she injured herself more and had various injuries to her arm.
Tamara has Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, a forearm contusion, injury to her ulnar nerve, an injury to the radial nerve in the upper part of her arm, and she had to wear a full arm length cast for two weeks.
Tamara was supposed to wear the cast for four weeks but due to swelling the doctors had to take it off two weeks early. During that whole time, the doctors had put Tamara on medicine but it did not seem to be working. After all that, Tamara had to have an EMG done to see if there was nerve damage.
Since they found out that Tamara's problem started in her neck and went down into to her fingers, she was supposed to go to physical therapy for six weeks. At that point Tamara was willing to try anything to help her so I decided she should try acupuncture because I had heard it was a good way to relieve pain and swelling.
So now for the past two months, Tamara has done acupuncture twice a week. In this upcoming season, Tamara's team is going to play her old team but she cannot play so she will be on the sidelines encouraging her team. Even if Tamara does have to sit on the sidelines this season, it will help her and her dream of playing college soccer and maybe even Pro soccer.
Wendy Ficke is Tamara's mother.
