Settlers of frontier regions regarded the untamed wilderness with reverence. These are seen as places where life is reduced to its essence. Men are men and people are in a state of harmony with other animals and nature.
Frontier values deal with harsh, rugged beauty and a simplistic moral and ethical code. The American Spirit has the urge to push physical barriers to their limits. Genuine freedom is possessed by those whose power of reason is free from manipulation by others and are capable of exercising self-determination in our moral and political choices.
Individuals have certain inalienable rights which should not be transgressed by any individual, group, or government. Civil liberties are the freedoms generally considered to be essential features of democratic government. Civil liberties prohibit government officials from unwarranted interference in the personal, political, and economic activities of a citizen. These include personal freedoms of privacy, of movement, of expression, of association, and of worship, and the right to own and dispose of one's property.
Civil liberties allow people to do some things WITHOUT permission. Liberty exists where citizens are free to behave in ways which do not harm another citizen or contravene specific laws.

When General Eisenhower became President, bridge became a favorite pastime at the White House. In one session, a daring Eisenhower finesse failed and he went down 4 tricks - doubled and vulnerable. “This is one of the few times anyone around here has “set a president”.
