Utterances & orations
Contributed by: DR. SEAN REIF D.C. on 5/9/2008

Early last year, as an eloquent Northglenn citizen, Dr. Sean Reif D.C. gave voice to a series of orations; the consequences where such that other board members called for Dr. Sean's resignation or go undergo an ecclesiastical trial for acts considered heresy to some on the Northglenn Planning Commission. It is doubtful whether they could have documented all the charges uttered. His indictment advanced beyond the evidence. Nevertheless, history will record him as a patriotic citizen who rendered a memorable service to the Northglenn.

The brutal charges of Dr. Sean Reif were thus a natural reaction of the refusal of the Novak administration to assist investigations of the loyalty of the Planning Commissioners. He finally got them to include the Pledge of Allegiance, a loyalty oath, in the agenda and minutes of every meeting.

The need is obvious to honest and alert citizens that without a question, the charges of harboring Communists, which Dr. Reif brought before the Chair was a hard blow. But his sledgehammer blows were a natural reaction to the hostility of a liberal administration toward any adequate investigation of Communism within the Planning Commission.

The Doc has demanded honest efforts to search out subversives in our Municipal government. Such persons would be a menace to a democratic government. Why are we not demanding excellence in government and ascribing to proper parliamentary procedures, and Robert's Rules of Order??

I see a grave change to freedom of speech and liberty; democracy has greatly suffered as the representatives of the people are not left absolutely free to express their views on the floor of this Chamber. To me, it appears that the Council has trampled upon the American tradition that the accused is deemed innocent until convicted. Such broad charges brought about, without the support of evidence, was unfair, and violates an American principle of fair play.

Liberals pour their venom and contempt. Persons who are otherwise possessed of emotional stability have become off-balance as they delivered their sentiments on Dr. Reif. Refined countenances turned to bitterness and unpleasant sneers as lips spit out their contemptuous words.

He accused certain officials of being Communist or subversive socialists. But even these accusations were presented in an impersonal manner. On the other hand, his opponents injected emotional attacks on Dr. Sean Reif's character that have no proper place in the debate.

The minority's rights, the freedoms of the Bill of Rights are indeed very precious.

At this point, I am not going to discuss whether the action of that group are the result of treachery, or incompetence. I intend to discuss the treachery, later. Anyone with eye to see and ear to hear and a mind with which to think, can but agree that whether it is treachery or incompetence, those actions have been awfully bad for Americans, and awfully good for the cause of Communism.

If citizens are concerned about a proposed development, they can put their opposition in writing. Some opponents should consider a special petition to challenge plans. Resident concerns are on the density of the projects and its traffic implications. Neighbors of any project have a real interest in plans for the land. The petition could put a heighten standard on the Council's decision. The council would set a public hearing giving the residents another chance to voice their opposition.

Novak has moved the City of Northglenn forward during her 6 years as Mayor. But increasingly her strength as grown into inflexibility. She has been ill served by members of her team at City Hall, but her loyalty to them seems unshaken and unshakable. The administration has favoritism to supporters and revenge against opponents. She pledges a more open administration that is accessible and responsive to voters. More accountability and transparency are needed in City of Northglenn government.

Bad manners are not grounds for muzzling and persecution. It is still a free country. To fear an idea - any idea - is unworthy of a free society. To suppress an idea from debate is cowardly. Americans pride ourselves in openness and free thought. The utterance of forbidden words has created a caterwauling like the Misses who saw a mouse, has sent Thomas Jefferson, spinning in his grave.
