Northglenn staff put on great Easter events
Contributed by: Marty and Tommy Follett on 4/17/2006

We want to commend the excellent staff of the City of Northglenn Recreation Center for holding their first Flashlight Easter Egg hunt on April 14.

This hunt was organized by Amanda Norconk, who supervised Doreen Mercer, Jennifer Wos and Stephanie Peterson, plus numerous other staff members who helped out as well as DJ Ed and his son.

The staff, along with 12 members of the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association of Northglenn (CPAAAP), hid more than 2,000 Easter eggs plus helped maintain the integrity of the perimeter along with a police sergeant and a police officer.

A big thanks to the chief of police, who helped out with some more police boundary tape. The fine men and women of CPAAAN are dedicated to volunteering wherever and whenever they are needed to assist making so many events so successful in this fine city.

We think the overall event went exceptionally well with approximately 104 young boys and girls from ages 12 to 18 finding the Easter eggs scattered around the outside of the entire Recreation Center in the dark in bushes, trees and lawn areas. They also enjoyed refreshments and more prizes afterwards. Remember this was the first time for this event so some minor refinements will need to be made for next years event to improve it.

The other first time event that went perfectly was held the morning of April 15 despite earlier rain showers by six members of the Northglenn Neighborhood Development Corporation(NNDC), along with the help of six members of CPAAAN. They scattered more than 5,000 eggs for the delight of approximately 250 kids from the ages of 3 to 11 at E.B. Rains Park, who had a ball finding all the eggs. It was also nice to see two city council members there with their children plus other city employees and a police officer with her children. Many other prizes were given out afterwards which were donated by many local merchants. The members of the NNDC and CPAAAN did an excellent job and are to commended. We think that everyone in attendance had a great time and enjoyed themselves immensely.

Where else in the metro area do you find events such as these to help promote getting the youth of all ages involved not only at Easter time but throughout the year? Northglenn continues to be a very unique, pleasant and enjoyable city to live in despite efforts to undermine it by a few residents that are trying to implement their own views without regards for the residents of the entire city.

If they have a better plan why not present it for the whole city to review instead of just criticizing everything that is put forth by the city council or staff. Also when some are speaking out let all the residents know that they are positioning themselves to run for either a council members position and/or mayor.

Now is the time to either put up or shut up and join together as one team. Possibly they should try volunteering which is heart warming, worthwhile and such a gratifying experience that helps everyone.

We all continue to live here so let's start working together and not pull against all the efforts of the mayor and city council, plus all the staff and fantastic volunteers who are striving to make this an even greater city for all the residents. We can all make a difference.

What a great two days for this fine city and everyone who participated are to be commended for their outstanding leadership, dedication, persistence and patience for an exemplary job well done. They all deserve a great big thank you.
