Leader's Legacy Lives Long-Time
Contributed by: DR. SEAN REIF D.C. on 4/14/2008

A leader's legacy of morality is just as important than a legacy of competence. Because a leader's legacy and the organization's reputation appear to be intertwined, a leader's actions, may be far more significant that the leader or his followers realize. Even if a leader's actions demonstrate competence, the morality of those actions may be of more lasting consequence.

A leader's legacy lies in the patterns of behavior that reflects his contributions and impact on the organization. It may reflect vision, values, personality, achievements, general leadership qualities, or any combination. They tend to foster group cohesiveness, feeling of identification, inspiration, commitment, and continuity in an organization.

Death triggers considerable thought and reflection about the legacy of the deceased. "One does not know more about a man because he is dead; but what we already know, cements and becomes more defined."
